Is a Vegas wedding legally binding?

Las Vegas is a popular destination for quickie weddings. However, there are still a few legal requirements that must be met before your Sin City wedding dream becomes a reality. Follow these steps to make sure your Las Vegas wedding is legally binding.

How to Make Sure Your Las Vegas Wedding is Legally Binding

When you and your significant other arrive in Las Vegas, you’ll want to obtain your marriage license at the Clark County Marriage License Bureau, which is located on the bottom floor of the Regional Justice Center. The Justice Center is located Downtown Las Vegas at 201 E. Clark Avenue Las Vegas, NV 89101. In the state of Nevada, a marriage license will cost you about $77.

Las Vegas Marriage License Requirements

You and your partner must appear together at the Marriage License Bureau and present valid, government-issued photo identification. Any of the following photo identification may be used:

  • Valid Driver’s License
  • U.S. or foreign country issued I.D. card showing your photo and birthdate
  • Passport
  • Military Identification
  • Resident Alien Card

As a bonus, the state of Nevada does not require blood tests. Your marriage license is issued immediately on the day and is valid for 1 year.
Tip: Save time by filling in a pre-application form online.

After your big day, your wedding officiant will file your marriage license with the Clark County Recorder’s Office within ten days. The Certified Copy of Marriage License, also called Proof of Marriage, will be sent to you by standard mail through the US Post Office. Need it sooner? Fortunately, The Little Vegas Chapel offers an accelerated license processing service, which allows us to file your marriage license one day after your ceremony.

Las Vegas Commitment Ceremony

If you and your partner want to show your commitment to each other without getting a marriage license or filling our paperwork, a commitment ceremony may be exactly what you’re looking for. A commitment ceremony, also called a pretend wedding or fake wedding, is the ideal way to have a ceremony without the cumbersome legalities. Plus, these ceremonies are performed with many similarities to an actual Vegas wedding. In fact, you can exchange rings, write and say your vows of love, be pronounced a committed couple, sign a commitment certificate, and enjoy a photo session with our wedding photographer.

Renew Your Vows

Looking to celebrate your marriage and reaffirm your commitment to each other? Similar to a Commitment Ceremony, you don’t need a license for a Renewal of Vows.
