Elvis Presley and His Pink Cadillac
Elvis Presley is the best selling solo artist in history, having sold roughly 600 million albums worldwide. If that wasn’t impressive enough, he was also inducted into multiple music halls of fame and nominated for 14 Grammys.
But Elvis Presley is known for more than his musical talents. From his iconic white suits to his perfectly coiffed hair, the King was also known for an extravagant sense of style and flair. A major aspect of his iconic style was his love affair with cars, particularly his Pink Cadillacs. The King of Rock and Roll owned the unique 1955 Cadillac Fleetwood Series and 1961 Cadillac Coupe de Ville. Elvis also purchased a Cadillac Fleetwood Series 60 that he had painted a unique “Elvis Rose” pink and gifted to his mother, Gladys. Although Gladys never had a driver’s license, she still loved to tell people that this was her car.
Since the Cadillac was Elvis’ favorite make of car, he included his Cadillacs in song. His Black Cadillac is mentioned in the song :Santa Claus is Back in Town,” and his Pink Cadillac is mentioned in “Baby Let’s Play House.” The song was the first by Elvis to appear on the national charts, making number five on the Country Singles Charts in 1955. Elvis’s affinity for the 1955 Fleetwood Cadillac was well documented, and his reputation for collecting cars was well deserved.
Elvis would go on to buy several Cadillacs throughout his life, but none were more famous than the Pink Cadillac. In fact, Presley’s decision to paint his Cadillac pink inspired many to do the same, especially since Ford was the only motor company at the time to offer pink cars. Presley’s famous Pink Cadillac has been shown at the Presley Motors Automobile in Graceland for the past 30 years. As Major Elvis Presley fans, the Little Vegas Chapel is a proud owner of 2 Pink Cadillacs and a 1968 and 1970 Cadillac Coupe de Ville.
The Little Vegas Chapel has removed the Pink Cadillac transportation service, but you should still be able to see our Cadillacs parked out in the front of our chapel. We encourage you to drop by and snap a quick picture in front of them if they are out!
